The Bay High School Athletic Department and Bay Village State Farm Agent, Brad Larson, have partnered up to create the “State Farm Athlete of the Month” award. This award is presented to a Bay High School student-athlete that has excelled while participating in his/her respective sport.
Junior, R.J. Sunahara is the first recipient of the “State Farm Athlete of the Month” award for the month of March.
While participating for the basketball team this year, Sunahara averaged 23.9 points per game, 12.4 rebounds per game, 3.2 assists per game, 2.7 blocks per game, while shooting 60 percent from the floor. During the season, he broke school records for most steals in a game (10), most defensive rebounds in a season (205), highest point average in a season (23.9), and highest 2-point field goal percentage in a season (63.2%).
Sunahara earned First-Team All-Great Lakes Conference, First-Team Northeast Lakes All- District, and First-Team All-Ohio. He is also participating in the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Showcase. He was voted as one of the top 50 players in Northeast Ohio by Cleveland.com.
