Bay Rockets track teams competed at the Great Lakes Conference Meet 5/9-11 hosted by Rocky River High School. The girls team finished 2nd in the conference scoring 132 points to Rocky River’s 204. The boys team finished 4th totaling 93 points.
BAY GIRLS GLC EVENT CHAMPIONS: Makaela Mertic won the girls 100m dash in a time of 13.23 seconds after finishing with the fastest qualifying time in the prelims. Amanda Cusimano was this year’s 3200m champion finishing in a meet record time of 11:43.40. Meredin Oster won the girls high jump as the only athlete to clear the height of 5 feet. In the girls pole vault, Mara Kinsey cleared a height of 9 feet even to claim the champion title.
GIRLS TRACK TOP FINISHERS: the girls 4×800 relay team of Amanda Cusimano, Audrey Goebel, Abby Coe, and Aubrey Crabb finished 2nd in a time of 10:23.33. In the 100m hurdles, Jess Rachel qualified for finals to place 7th crossing the line in 18.92 seconds. Rachel also qualified for finals in the 300m hurdles finishing 6th with a time of 54.03 seconds. In addition to Mertic’s champion title in the 100m dash, Ellie Frey qualified for finals placing 7th with a time of 13.66 seconds. Cusimano and Crabb snagged the 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the 1600m run finishing with season best times of 5:20.61 and 5:30.31, respectively. The 4×100 team of Ellie Frey, Mara Kinsey, Ellie LaMotte, and Makaela Mertic finished 2nd crossing the line in a season best time of 54.03 seconds. In the 400m dash, both Ava Ransom and Olivia Reed qualified for finals placing 5th and 7th finishing in 1:05.61 and 1:05.78 – both season best efforts! In the 800m run, Abby Coe and Audrey Goebel posted their fastest times of the season finishing 5th and 7th, running times of 2:36.62 and 2:37.38. in the 200m dash, Mertic qualified for finals and placed 3rd running season best time of 28.03 seconds. In addition to Cusimano’s top finish in the 3200m run, Meredith Garrity placed 2nd with a season best time of 12:25.63. With the final event on the track, the girls 4×400 relay team of London Phillips, Helen Rice, Ava Ransom, and Olivia Reed ran their best time of the season in 4:27.74 for a 3rd place finish
In the field events, Reed added a 6th place finish in the high jump clearing 4 feet, 6 inches. Ava Almquist helped to sweep the top 2 spots in the pole vault with her 2nd place effort clearing 8 feet, 6 inches. In the long jump, Mertic and Oster qualified for finals with season best jumps of 16 feet, 1 inch and 15 feet, 6 inches, good for 2nd and 5th place finishes.
The girls track team travels to the District track meet at Amherst Steele High School next Wednesday and Friday.
