Meet Recap

State ranked number 2 Rocky River had a good enough outing to dethrone 2 time GLC
Champion Bay High. This was the first time the Pirates have defeated the Rockets in a Conference Championship in at least 12 years. Still the number 8th ranked Bay Men’s team
put on a good show with 4 guys earning GLC first team honors, and the other 2 second team. Senior Danny Desmond paced himself well over the slower than usual Cahoon Park 5000 meter course, to place 4th in 16:45. Senior Sam Coe was next in 5th, running 16:52, followed by Junior Ivan Slyepkan just a step behind in 16:53. Freshman Jude Ault earned the last GLC first team spot by out kicking the 2017 GLC 1600m champion at the tape, running 17:01 for 7th. Sophomore Khaled Hamil was only one step behind them in 17:02.8
Sixth man, sophomore Trevor Ifft also had a fine race, running 17:16 for 12th place, in perhaps the teams deepest race this season, as all the varsity runners ran very well in the race.
They will be joined at next weeks District race by GLC open champion Will Warren, who lowered his personal best by 3 seconds to hold off fellow freshman Jacob Feicks and take
first place with a time of 17:24. Mr. Feicks put on extremely exciting display of racing against the older more experienced field of 93 runners. Jacob took over the lead after the second mile entering the woods, and appeared out the other end still in front. Will Warren took over the last 400m as a determined Jacob Feicks pushed him all the way to the finish.
Jacob broke his personal best by a staggering 58 seconds. Their fellow Rockets, with help from these two, put on another open championship display, with 14 from Bay in the first 18 places. Alex Semancik ran 17:46 for 4th place, with Darren Vesely in the next spot, joining the 17 minute club, with his new pr of 17:53.6. Sam Warren finished less than a second later for 6th. Freshman Logan Yessayan lowered his best time to 17:57.2 taking 8th. Sohpomore Kenzie Deibel who was one of only 2 Rockets who lowered their personal best times at last weeks Legends meet, did so again with his 18:19.7 good for 11th place.
Will Burlingame ran a new pr of 18:57.8 for that 18th spot. Also setting new prs were Jack
Murray, Ryan Duffy, Michael Kusunick, and Patrick Brophy.
